Our Goal
Homelessness, like any other social problem, has various levels of seriousness. While Community Homes and Restoration Management Services (CHARMS) 501(c) 3 corporation looks to support many forms of homelessness, permanent support is our main goal. Permanent supportive housing is the preferred method for addressing the effects of long-term homelessness. Additionally, supportive housing has been shown to decrease crisis care costs for the government. A more permanent accommodation for long-term effect of homelessness not only cuts care rates, but also frees up beds in emergency shelters and temporary housing for homeless individuals who are facing less extreme types of homelessness. The main aim of this initiative is to mitigate and ultimately end long-term homelessness in Jacksonville, Florida through permanent supportive housing for the homeless. CHARMS, Inc. is a publicly supported, non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation. It is the umbrella organization that provides the network connecting all CHARMS establishments and allocates resources to duplicate the CHARMS concept where needs arise. The number of residents in an establishment may range from six to fifteen; there are dwellings for men, dwellings for women, and dwellings solely for women with children. Each establishment represents a remarkably effective and low-cost method of preventing relapse. This was the purpose of the first CHARMS dwelling established in 2021. The purpose is served day by day, helping to meet the needs of the least fortunate.
